SEC initiates lawsuit against FTX auditor
The SEC alleges that audit firm Prager Metis, hired by failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX in 2021, committed hundreds of violations related to auditor independence.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched legal proceedings against an accounting firm that provided services to cryptocurrency exchange FTX before it declared bankruptcy. According to a Sept. 29 filing, the SEC alleges that Prager Metis provided audit services to its clients without maintaining the necessary independence as it continued to provide accounting services. This practice is prohibited under the principles of auditor independence.
Honda began accepting cryptocurrency as payment
Japanese car, motorcycle, and electrical equipment manufacturer Honda now accepts cryptocurrency as a payment method. Thanks to a partnership with the FCF Pay payment system, the company's cars can now be purchased with cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, XRP, and DOGE. The automotive giant will also be able to accept no less than 46 cryptocurrencies supported by FCF Pay. Apart from DOGE, the list includes other meme coins such as Shiba Inu, Pepe Coin, Floki Inu, Bone ShibaSwap, Doge Killer, and others.
SEC charges Do Kwon with Chai fraud
In an updated lawsuit against Do Kwon, the SEC alleges that the Terraform Labs founder carried out fake transactions for affiliate payment platform Chai.
According to the department, the heads of the two companies misled investors by demonstrating that payments were made on the Terra blockchain. In fact, the transactions were settled “traditionally,” the regulator noted.
Among the evidence, the SEC attached a screenshot of Kwon's correspondence with another Terraform co-founder, Daniel Shin. The latter created and headed the payment platform.
