Sony to Launch Soneium Layer 2 Network for Ethereum Ecosystem.

Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between Sony Group and Singapore-based Startale Labs, has announced the launch of Soneium, a Layer 2 solution on Ethereum.

Sony will reportedly release the L2 protocol based on Optimism’s OP Stack. The team will release technical documentation and developer tools in the coming weeks.

According to the press release, the first publicly available testnet will be developed in collaboration with blockchain platform Astar Network. The collaboration will integrate Astar’s zkEVM assets and infrastructure with Soneium, providing initial liquidity and support for some digital assets.

The Soneium L2 protocol aims to address key issues such as scalability, security, and decentralisation, while also aiming to make it “as user-friendly as possible.”
